In making diversity a priority at NYU, the Center presents interactive and intercultural training sessions, thought-provoking presentations, and innovative educational activities that enhance a deeper understanding of the multicultural nature of our campus community. Through diversity education, we seek to develop and create a sensitive, safe, respectful, and inclusive campus environment.

The Administrators Cultural Training Institute (A.C.T. I) is a cost-free, continuing professional development program, designed for Code 100 Student Affairs administrators at NYU.  Launched in Fall 2008, the A.C.T. Institute is designed to explore concepts such as diversity, social justice, identity and inclusion particularly as they relate to the work administrators conduct with students and colleagues.  Participants will gain both insights and practical tools to inform their personal lens, which we believe will assist efforts to impact institutional, cultural and individual practices.  Participants can be nominated by colleagues or self-apply.

The Intergroup Dialogue Program is a nationally recognized 1-credit course that brings together small groups of students from diverse backgrounds to share their experiences and gain new knowledge related to diversity and social justice. This 8-week course is open to all NYU undergraduate students, and takes place in the Spring semester only.

The IGD model is designed to promote positive intergroup relations among students, staff, and faculty and to improve the campus climate at NYU. The model focuses specifically on intergroup dynamics within the context of an institution of higher education while promoting awareness and change in intergroup relations at the individual, cultural, and institutional levels. The guiding assumption is that diversity is an institutional asset and can be used to enhance growth of the NYU community while also achieving specific educational outcomes.

Applications available November 2, 2009.

The Future Administrators Cultural Training Seminar (FACTS) is a professional development opportunity for individuals pursuing a master's in NYU's Higher Education Administration program and other graduate students interested in issues of equity and education. The goal is to have participants explore concepts of identity, power dynamics, and privilege that exist within a campus environment. By the end of training, participants will gain both insights and tools to inform their personal lens on these topics, ultimately impacting institutional practices. For more information, please contact Associate Director, Marcella Runell Hall at 212-998-4350 or marcella@nyu.edu for more information.
