The Administrators Cultural Training Institute (ACT-I) is a professional development program series for Code 100 administrators throughout various Student Affairs departments at NYU. The Institute is designed to explore concepts such as diversity, social justice, identity and inclusion particularly as they relate to the work administrators do with students and colleagues. By the end of the Institute, participants will gain both insights and practical tools to inform their personal lens, which we believe will ultimately assist in efforts to impact institutional and cultural practices. Participants can be nominated by colleagues, or can self-select to apply for the Institute.
Foundations is the first seminar in the series and serves as the prerequisite for all other institute sessions. It offers a broad overview of the complexity of diversity issues in higher education and supplies common language and shared theoretical frameworks for analyzing these issues. The Foundations seminar will be offered twice in fall 2008 and participants must attend one of the following sessions in order to participate in spring 2009 seminars. Pre-Registration Required. Foundations sessions will be held October 31st and November 21st from 1-4pm.
Subsequent seminars will more closely examine select areas of diversity and social justice in higher education, and specifically at NYU:
Upon completion of at least two seminar sessions (6-hours) participants will receive a certificate from the NYU Human Resources Department indicating formal training in cultural competency. Participants who complete all five of the seminars will graduate from the Institute, receive a Human Resources certificate indicating completion of full training in cultural competency, special recognition from the Division of Student Affairs and an award at the annual NIA Awards Dinner (May 8, 2009).
Training seminars are free, but require application and registration.
